Practice Management Services in Detail

"BCS addresses all aspects of practice management from ICD9-CM and CPT-4 Coding to contracted payer negotiations and comprehensive credentialing to complete patient accounting and analytical reporting..."

Our Practice Management Services provide all that is needed to effectively, cost consciously, and professionally manage your patient accounts receivable. Our proven operations will maximize your cash flow, while maintaining an acceptable accounts receivable balance with a quite tolerable A/R days outstanding. BCS has a historical reputation of maintaining an average overall A/R Days Outstanding of 28-45 days.

BCS utilizes the most advanced computer and communication systems available to link you to our Processing Center. Your office can provide all patient billing data via our toll free FAX Communication Network, utilize our eAPR/eMPR systems via our secured website, or in larger volume practices, BCS Information Systems Analyst will work with your IT Staff to facilitate electronic data transfers via secured FTP upload or downloads or other secured data transfer methods. No postage, no mailing lag time, generally your patient accounts are well on the way to completed processing within 48 hours of receipt...safe... secure... and confidential.

Upon receipt, BCS staff will review the Patient Record data for completeness, and create the electronic patient record within the BCS system. Our staff will then perform all necessary CPT-4 and ICD9-CM coding by a degreed Medical Records Director and staff, admit the patient account to the cutting edge BCS PassAdvance - Patient Accounting System. On an average, more than 90% of the professional charges are processed electronically to the nation's third party payers, those requiring paper claim submission formats are processed as well. In those instances where the patient does not have or does not provide any third party payer information, we will process those charges directly to the patient. BCS will even provide processing to all secondary carriers as a service to you and your patient community. BCS provides all that is necessary; toll free access, coding, forms, secured online access to patient accounts for your patient community, statements, envelopes, postage costs....and more, all at an inclusive single cost to you. No additionally processing costs are passed on to you.

With BCS’s advanced technology, and comprehensive staff, all statistical data, cash flow data, and accounts receivable data is available instantaneously and is also reviewed by numerous BCS staff daily, weekly, and capsulated monthly in our practice recap sent to you each month. All reporting is done in a secured electronic standard Excel format with paper reporting when requested.

On-Line Claims Processing - EDI

Electronically processing professional services claims to the respective third party payers is a must in today’s fast paced practice management environment. AR days absolutely need to be at their lowest and electronic claims processing is the only way to reach these goals. Many payers require electronic submission of claim data, and many others prefer the method. Therefore superior knowledge and experience in the world of electronic claim management is mandatory. BCS, realizing this critical aspect of practice management, set out years ago to create our own proprietary electronic claims processing system within the BCS PassAdvance system. Based of course upon the standards set forth by HIPAA—Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996– Today BCS’s electronic claims processing system, known as PassDirect, electronically communicates with third party payers –governmental as well as private– all across the nation. Furthermore, PassDirect is interactive with the payers’ systems and receives claim processing updates and responses during the data exchange. Secure and HIPAA compliant. A majority of our PassDirect connections are directly with the payers, bypassing any "clearinghouses" this provides for a more reliable and faster return. There are instances when the best electronic path to a payer is via a clearinghouse, in those instances there are only two clearinghouses that meet BCS standards.

Our EDI, Electronic Data Interchange Network, continues to expand daily coupled with our ongoing system upgrades. Our utilization of our proprietary electronic claims processing system, PassDirect, allows us to edit claims closely prior to their delivery either electronically or in paper format to the third party payer, whichever format the payer requires. In line with our commitment to your practice of providing and utilizing the most innovative technology available, our PassDirect system is constantly evolving to achieve the fastest claims turn around time available. There is essentially no Medicare, Blue Cross, or Medicaid plan in the nation in addition to nearly every commercial third party payer that our PassDirect system cannot access. Electronic claims processing often times allows for payment of your charges within 7—21 days of receipt by the payer, compared to 45-55 days if the charges are prepared in the traditional paper format.

Whether onsite or via our in-depth data gathering processes, BCS will evaluate, and compile the appropriate practice data to secure recommendations to your concerns and more than likely point out several other issues that you and your team may not have been aware of. BCS’s unique background, exposure, and access to the resources of BCS's Practice Management Systems gives us a true insight into the many issues that face healthcare practices today. BCS has years of experience in negotiating with third party payers to achieve an equitable end result. BCS puts this experience to work for each of our clients.

Our consulting Services can consist of short or long term objectives with several phases of implementation as well as resolving simpler issues more easily. BCS’s Consulting Fee structure is unique in that, following an initial consultation, a general project quote can usually be made which will allow for true cost effective use of an outside resource such as BCS.

Our Financial Impact Study process has been put to the test in nationally recognized teaching facilities, urban healthcare centers as well as rural healthcare facilities across the nation. Departmental or practice evaluation and valuation, as well as profitability in facility practices, physician practices, or allied healthcare practice issues can be addressed very effectively by BCS. Often times an outside expert's opinion such as BCS is quite beneficial to resolve internal issues.

BCS has worked extensively in the areas of “re-designing” healthcare providers’ relationships with the facility where they provide their services. Although not a legal representative, BCS has a unique insight into the complexities that surround the implementation and ongoing nature of a healthcare provider’s practice. From Practice Management Evaluation and Implementation of alternatives and innovative solutions, BCS is the key to success and should be at your side at the decision making table.

BCS Continues to Expand Facility Owned Anesthesia Practice Management Services

Although private anesthesia practice management makes up the bulk of the BCS clientele, BCS continues to find itself providing the same comprehensive practice management services to healthcare facilities nationwide.

In this practice scenario, BCS contracts with a healthcare facility to provide all business aspects of a facility’s anesthesia department. This includes of course, practice evaluation, coding and billing functions, third party payer processing and patient account contact and follow-up. The expertise of BCS to provide these services in a cost contained mode with proven success coupled with the access to the private practicing fee schedules this type of practice scenario has to offer are quite attractive to today’s healthcare facility executives. Healthcare executives who are constantly searching for additional revenue sources to offset ever increasing operational costs.

Many executives do not realize the gain that may await them in moving to this type of practice scenario. If the current anesthesia providers are not interested in private practice and wish to further support their position with their facility executives, this is one of the best methods to do so.

BCS now manages these types of practices in many states across the US. Questions about BCS’s Anesthesia Department Practice Management Services should be directed to BCS President, Lee S. Broadston or BCSConsult.com

Professional Outline
President/Chief Executive Officer
BCS, INCORPORATED / BROADSTON CONSULTING SERVICES, INCORPORATED
HEALTHCARE PRACTICE MANAGEMENT AND CONSULTING SERVICES

As the Chief Executive Officer and President, Lee S. Broadston created BCS in 1984 to develop a unique approach to the ever changing hospital reimbursement environment. This was successfully accomplished by implementing the concept of BCS’s On-Site Consultant Placement service. Within both the rural and urban hospital’s administrative team, BCS focused on reimbursement issues, patient accounting, and overall business operations of the facility. As a result, hundreds of thousands of reimbursement dollars once thought lost, were captured and actualized by the hospitals working with BCS.

In 1988, BCS implemented its Professional Services Division, which presently specializes in providing complete practice management services to anesthesia, surgical, and other physician specialty practices in over 40 states throughout the United States. As managed care has continued to become a significant factor in practice management, BCS has secured and negotiated reimbursement agreements for providers that at one time were not recognized by the managed care entity. Furthermore, BCS has extensive experience in negotiating such “real life” agreements that result in a satisfactory gain for its clientele. Drawing from nearly 21 years experience in the healthcare industry, BCS provides a comprehensive consulting service to various providers and professional associations in the healthcare market, such as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, physician specialties such as, Anesthesiologists, General/Vascular Surgeons, Pediatricians, Pathologists, and Ophthalmologists. Furthermore, BCS is continually present in the hospital consulting market, in providing in-depth financial and reimbursement analysis into specific departments of the facilities from both local hospital as well as nationally recognized academic health centers and corporate hospital markets across the United States.
