"As we process medical claims to Cigna Health Plan - the payer for the State of Illinois, this is the statement we received on recently processed claims..... "This patient is a State of Illinois employee and this is a "self-funded" insurance plan. The State if Illinois is currently behind on their payments to CIGNA, therefore CIGNA is withholding insurance payments to their employees/providers. CIGNA is currently paying State of Illinois claims received in March 2009 so they are very far behind. They have no way of knowing when this will pay (as it depends on when the State pays them -Cigna- ), but the claim will receive 9% interest from the EOB date to when the check is issued."
