PA Medicare Medical Policy Recognizes CRNAs/MDs only providers to use MAC Drugs -Propofol, Fentanyl

Pennsylvania Medicare's Local Medical Policy -(LCD A-4) on monitored anesthesia care, has been revised as of August 15, 2005 to remove the following anesthesia services from the listing of surgical services that do not normally require MAC. 00520 -Brochonscopy, 00740 EGDs, 00810 colonoscopies. What this means to anesthesia providers is that when a paralytic drug is administered -Propofol, Versed- Medicare recognizes the fact that these drugs require the expertise of an MD, DO, or CRNA and reimbursement for anesthesia services will be made ......
