Earlier in August 2006, Anthem Blue Cross issued a revision to its policy on reimbursement for anethesia services for patients undergoing GI procedures, e.g. Colonoscopy, Bronchoscopy, and EGDs. This new policy set to be implemented September 1, 2006 would severely restrict reimbursement to CRNAs or Anesthesiologists who provide anesthesia for these procedures unless the patient's condition supported certain medical necessity criteria. In a letter dated, August 28, 2006 mailed to all of it's anesthesia providers, Anthem announced this new policy revision will NOT be implemented at this time and is suspended until November 1, 2006. In the interim Anthem will be re-evaluating this policy revision.
