On a related note, there continues to be a significant amount of confusion surrounding the NPI implementation, utilization, and communication to all payers system wide following our latest audio briefing yesterday with the WPS-CMS -Wisconsin Physician Services- furthermore NPI regulations indicated that NPI information on providers would be published in 2006 but this still has yet to be done. There is still a significant number of providers, both MD and allied health -CRNAs- that need NPIs that have yet to get theirs. Furthermore, anesthesia claims data must contain the referring or surgeon's NPI in order for the claims to be processed as of May 2007. There was some discussion about petitioning CMS for a contingency plan on the May 2007 implementation so that claims processing will be allowed to continue while these numerous issues can be resolved. At this time WPS CMS as well as Noridian Adm Services is hold on to the May 2007 launch date.
